Seattle Downtown neighborhood has the famous (and newly renovated) Pike Place Market. This neighborhood hotspot, has proved a staple since its inception in the early 1900’s. A massive Farmer’s Market, the idea of Pike Place Market was to congregate local farmers, craftspeople, and merchants and get them in the forefront of the population.
Since it was originally build, the market has gone through numerous and intense renovations, all accumulating to its most resent revamp bringing us the “new market” in the Summer of 2017, which marks the 110th anniversary for the market, having been officially established in 1907.
“Meet the farmers” every day, 363 days per year. Unlike many other local Farmers’ Markets, this one isn’t constricted to the summer months. Hundreds of local farmers, craftspeople, and specialty shops surround the market. Come down and meet them!
Alongside the market are the Gum Wall and the Pike Place Pig. Though there aren’t hundreds of donated pigs around the market and Downtown areas, you can still find the one inside! Both of these focal points are destination shops for locals and visitors to the area!
Originally part of an art competition, the Fremont Troll create a hot spot for people to come, hang out, and enjoy the wonder. Comprised of “rebar steel, wire and 2 tons of messy ferroconcrete,” this 18-foot tall Seattle favorite, was created by four local artists and derived from Scandinavian folklore (with some Seattle flare, with the crushing of the Volkswagon bug.)
Noted as an “interesting sight,” people come from far and wide to snap a few photos with the Troll and climb all over him. Just make sure you’re careful – he’d slippery! Located under the Aurora Bridge on North 36th Street, the Troll isn’t too far away from downtown Fremont – making it a perfect stop towards boutique shopping and local eateries.
Located near the bottom of Lower Queen Anne, rests the massive campus of the Space Needle and Seattle Center. Tons of Seattle-staple events happen on the lawns surrounding the International Fountain, and even more on the outskirts.
The park-like campus beautifully combines things like the Seattle Children’s Museum, the Museum of Pop Culture, the Pacific Science Center, the Seattle Children’s Theater, and Chihuly Garden & Glass into a one-of-a-kind experience geared to classic Seattle culture and knowledge. The north end of campus, holds McCaw Hall, the Seattle Repertory Theatre, and the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall, where groups like the Pacific Northwest Ballet perform.
Bundled between these fascinating places are local eateries, bookshops, coffeehouses, and shops to check out. As it always has, the Seattle Center is the perfect day-tip into the city and offers a little something for everyone!
Enjoy a ride up the Seattle Space Needle to the observation deck and see what all the fuss is about! Though SkyCity, the restaurant at the top of the Space Needle, is currently closed for renovations, you see “what’s up” at their keeping you informed website here.
As it’s always been, the Seattle Waterfront remains a hub of the city. In between loading docks and shipping centers, the waterfront spans the length from Pioneer Square to Belltown and encompasses miles of walking paths, specialty shops and promenades.
Along the way, you;ll experience all Seattle has to offer, including the Seattle Aquarium, Pier 54, Pier 55, Pier 56, and Pier 57: Miner’s Landing, which includes fun and entertainment, such as the Great Seattle Ferris Wheel, The Carousel, Pirates Plunder and Wings over Washington.
Across the Elliott Bay, you’ll see West Seattle, Seattle massive jut of peninsula. Much of the beaches surrounding the area, rest along Alki Avenue Southeast and Beach Drive Southwest. From the most western tip of Jack Block Park & Joe Block Park to the Alki Point & Charles Rickey Sr. Viewpoint, to the Emma Schmitz Memorial Overlook & Me-Kwa-Mooks Park, you’ll find breathtaking views across the Puget Sound.
Though much of the action rests between 53rd Avenue Southwest and 64th Place Southwest, you’ll find oodles of fun elsewhere. But, along this spread, you’ll find the famous Alki Beach Park. Along this stretch, you’ll find hotspots, such as the Alki Café, the West Seattle Brewing Company, Pegasus Pizza & Pasta, and the Alki Spud’s Fish & Chips.
