3 Winter Day Trips from Seattle, Washington

Winter might seem like the best time to curl up in your favorite blanket and forget about the world outside, but it’s quite the contrary. Winter in the Northwest is a time for you to indulge in our #PNW culture, and all its chilly, snowy and breathtaking glory!

We’ve compiled a list of 5 day trips for you to check out, while you’re staying happy and healthy through this year’s holiday season!

Our neighbors to the north sure know how to enjoy the snow – and with average annual snowfall of 38.5 feet, they really should!

Whistler, located in British Columbia, Canada, is about 4.5-miles north of Seattle. Whistler is best known for its snowboard and skiing culture, but that’s not all the not-so-sleepy town has to offer. In the evenings, lights twinkled from busy shops and restaurants in their expansive, pedestrian-only Village Stroll. Talk about variety and a culture mashup! You can listen to a dozen languages, and maybe even learn a few words from another visitor!

Regardless of what your hobbies are, the local area is great for anything from shopping to the great outdoors, so grab a reusable coffee mug, and pack your bags! Who knows – you might even want to stay longer than the day!

A little piece of snow in our own state (and country…?) is Leavenworth, Washington. Out Highway 2, just on the eastside of the Cascade Mountain Range, you’ll find the little town of Leavenworth. Nestled along the foothills of the Tumwater Mountain, this town offers a variety of winter-ready activities!

Only a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Seattle, Washington, Leavenworth offers more than just local charm. During the wintery season, Leavenworth hosts its own version of a holiday paradise, known as the Lighting Festival, where every tree, bush, and building light up for all the world (and space) to see! It’s free of charge, but only occurs on November 24th, 25th, and 26th, so be sure to check it out!

Leavenworth even has its own ski and snowboard range, with a wide array of activities, from skiing, snowboarding, tubing, Nordic hiking, mountain biking, and snowshoeing. Though they’re currently closed, check back frequently for updates to their website.

Considered a “gem of the wilderness,” the Goldmyer Hot Springs are nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, approximately 25-miles east of North Bend, Washington. Though limited to only 20 people per day, these springs are an excellent place to unwind and indulge in the naturalness of the surrounding areas.

Visit their website for all the information and to make a reservation!

The Greater Seattle Area plays host to a myriad of indoor, recreational activities, including museums, arcades, indoor community centers, public libraries, and shopping centers – and these activities are great for the day to day, but sometimes we just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city!

What are your favorite places to plan a day trip to?
